Hernandez returns to TPC Sawgrass, where he previously served as executive sous chef

PONTE VEDRA BEACH, Florida – TPC Sawgrass, home of THE PLAYERS Championship, is pleased to welcome its new executive chef, Johnattan Hernandez. With more than 20 years of experience, Hernandez will be responsible for managing the culinary operations for the entire property.

“We are excited to welcome Chef Johnattan back to TPC Sawgrass, where his diverse industry experience will pay immediate dividends for our members and guests,” said Kent James, Vice President of Food and Beverage, PGA TOUR Golf Course Properties. “His dedication and passion for an elevated dining experience will be a tremendous asset to our club, and we look forward to watching he and his team build upon the rich culinary experience here at TPC Sawgrass.”

A native of Puerto Rico, Hernandez most recently served as the chef director at TPC Las Vegas, where his elevated food and beverage program earned high praise from guests. Prior to his role in Nevada, Hernandez distinguished himself as the executive sous chef at TPC Sawgrass for four years from 2018 to 2023, contributing his talents to several editions of THE PLAYERS Championship. In his recent return to TPC Sawgrass, Hernandez has already demonstrated exceptional skill and leadership, including a victory at First Tee – North Florida’s recent Taste of Golf competition, which included some of the area’s top private club and resort chefs.

“I’m thrilled to return to TPC Sawgrass and lead its incredible culinary team – it feels like coming home,” Hernandez said. “I greatly admire the culture cultivated here and within the TPC Network and will work to build upon that night in and night out as we continue to deliver unforgettable experiences to our members and guests. I look forward to bringing back some of TPC Sawgrass’ favorite dishes that we all know and love, while introducing new dishes as we build upon the tremendous dining legacy at TPC Sawgrass.”

Hernandez’s culinary arch began in 2002 at the prestigious Ritz-Carlton, Philadelphia. He honed his craft working on the culinary teams at Al Sur restaurant in the Art Museum of Puerto Rico and at the Ritz-Carlton, San Juan, where his talent was recognized with numerous awards, including Taste of the Caribbean’s Chef of the Year. Golf Course Maintenance Administrative Assistant brings eye for detail, passion for teaching to her Las Vegas course and community

PONTE VEDRA BEACH, Florida – With nearly 2,000 employees in the TPC Network across the United States, Misty Kadel, Golf Course Maintenance Administrative Assistant at TPC Summerlin, has been named the 2023 recipient of the Network’s A. James Clark Award. Now in its ninth year, the annual award is given in recognition of an employee who upholds the values of the TPC Network and who exemplifies Mr. Clark’s same commitment, strong work ethic and inspirational leadership.

Misty joined TPC Summerlin more than a decade ago following a career in nuclear engineering, bringing with her an eye for detail and a passion for teaching. Whether organizing transportation, housing and meals for the throngs of volunteers each year at the Shriners Children’s Open, or simply training the golf course maintenance staff on using a new online payroll system, Kadel’s spirit and work ethic has left a lasting impression on TPC Summerlin’s employees, members and guests.

“Misty takes pride in following and administering company policies with fairness and accuracy, embodying the care and compassion one would expect from a mother of four and grandmother to four more,” said Brian Hawthorne, TPC Summerlin General Manager. “Despite her demanding professional and community commitments, Misty dedicates most of her afternoons and evenings to family responsibilities. It’s a wonder she finds time to sleep. However, when asked, she asserts that there is nothing else she would rather be doing. Misty Kadel embodies the epitome of what the TPC Network desires in an employee.”

Her qualities extend far beyond the professional world, as Misty also volunteers her personal time in the fall teaching Special Olympics athletes about the game of golf before coaching a Special Olympics basketball team in the winter. While volunteering with the basketball team recently, Kadel helped comfort a troubled player who had run off onto a nearby busy street, helping to avert potential disaster.

But that wasn’t the first time Misty’s heroics saved the day. Last November, her quick-thinking helped save a TPC Summerlin colleague who came in from the course feeling “a little off.” Using the skills she learned from CPR instructional classes, Kadel correctly diagnosed her colleague as having a stroke and immediately called 911, quite possibly saving his life.

“I am truly honored to receive this award, which is a credit to everyone here at TPC Summerlin and the incredible job they do day after day,” Kadel said. “I appreciate the TPC Network and PGA TOUR for extending me this wonderful honor, and I look forward to continue building upon our team’s great work for our members and guests in the years ahead.”

The inaugural A. James Clark award was presented in 2015 and past recipients of the award include Jody Boudreau (TPC Sawgrass), Dulce Muniz (TPC Southwind), Maggie Peebles (TPC River’s Bend), Jose Murillo Rodriguez (TPC Deere Run), Noel Hall (TPC River Highlands), Robin Morello (TPC River Highlands), Alex Rodriguez (TPC Harding Park) and Elizabeth (Beth) Stentiford (TPC Boston).

Each TPC club submits one nomination, with all nominees recognized on the A. James Clark plaque at each of their respective clubs. The overall winner is honored on the permanent plaque located at TPC Sawgrass in Ponte Vedra Beach, Fla. Misty will be recognized at the PGA TOUR Global Home, along with a plaque and donation to the charity of her choice. Misty selected Special Olympics Nevada where she regularly volunteers.

About Mr. A. James Clark

The PGA TOUR started working with Mr. Clark in 1987 and named him to what was its Investments Board in 1991. He became a member of the newly created PGA TOUR Golf Course Properties Board in 1994, a position he held until his death in March 2015.

The career of A. James Clark is a true American success story. As a young man, fresh out of the University of Maryland in 1950 with a degree in Civil Engineering, he joined a small local general contracting company that he would eventually own. Over the course of the next sixty years, his leadership and vision transformed it into one of the largest privately held and most successful construction companies in the nation. Clark Enterprises built power plants, hotels, military barracks, government research facilities, museums, sports arenas and transportation projects. Forbes Magazine once dubbed him the “King of Concrete.”

Clark Enterprises was contracted to construct the 77,000 square-foot Mediterranean Revival-style clubhouse at TPC Sawgrass, a project the company completed in 10 months, just in time for the 2007 PLAYERS Championship.

As an engineer, entrepreneur and philanthropist, Mr. Clark was the recipient of many academic, professional and civic honors. He was an honorary Trustee of the University of Maryland College Park Foundation, where he contributed tens of millions of dollars to the University, which named its engineering school after him. He was also an Emeritus Trustee of The Johns Hopkins University and Johns Hopkins Medicine.

PGA TOUR STAR STEVE STRICKER LEADS REDESIGN OF CHAMPIONSHIP COURSE, CLUB TO HAVE SOFT OPENING ON AUGUST 1 AND IS CURRENTLY ACCEPTING MEMBERSHIP APPLICATIONS

PONTE VEDRA BEACH, Fla. – The PGA TOUR’s TPC Network is pleased to announce that TPC Wisconsin, the Network’s 30th property in its portfolio of championship golf facilities, is opening to members as of today, with a grand opening taking place at a later date.

Prior to opening, the property received a complete overhaul to meet TPC Network standards, including a redesign of the course, improvements to the interior and exterior of the clubhouse and an enhanced golf Learning Center that will be completed in 2024. The redesign was led by 12-time PGA TOUR winner, 16-time PGA TOUR Champions winner and Madison resident, Steve Stricker, who was aided by PGA TOUR Design Services.

TPC Wisconsin serves as Madison’s only private facility offering an 18-hole golf course, all-season golf range, indoor and outdoor tennis, pickleball, two restaurants and a 25-meter Olympic-size outdoor pool.

“We’re honored to bring the first-of-its-kind championship golf course to the state of Wisconsin,” said Jim Triola, chief operating officer, PGA TOUR Golf Course Properties. “TPC Wisconsin further strengthens the brand’s portfolio and our dedication to the highest standards of quality and prestige. This addition, coupled with our collective passion for the game, will continue to shape golf experiences for members and spectators for years to come.”

Born in Edgerton, Wisconsin, Stricker’s plans included re-grading the course to accent advancements to the game of golf by repositioning features and rebuilding all the infrastructure including greens, tees and bunkers while implementing an all-new cart path system.

“I’ve lived on this course for many years – since it was Cherokee Country Club,” said Stricker. “This is my home. I consider it a privilege to bring my PGA TOUR career experience to bear on its re-envisioning and I have totally enjoyed working on the project with PGA TOUR Design Services. TPC Wisconsin will play to exact PGA TOUR standards. It’ll be a fair test for players of all levels, and yes – it’s going to be exceptional.”

The golf course has been replanted with newer, more improved species of turfgrass and has a new, more efficient, irrigation system installed. Some of the golf holes have been re-routed to improve green-to-tee walks and to create improved hubs of greens and tees. Spectator mounding has been integrated into many of these areas, taking into consideration the events to be played at TPC Wisconsin, starting with the PGA TOUR Champions’ American Family Insurance Championship in 2025. In addition to the course redesign, the Steve & Nicki Stricker American Family Insurance Learning Center will be enhanced in 2024 which will include a new indoor hitting structure that features club and putter fitting, an indoor putting green, Trackman technology and an outdoor short game practice area.

TPC Wisconsin is proud to incorporate significant environmental improvements throughout the redesign. The proximity of the course to the Cherokee Marsh, part of an extensive wetland complex of more than 2,000 acres, lends itself to an important component of the overall health of the local and regional ecosystem. TPC Wisconsin has restored more than 35 acres of degraded on-site wetlands to improve water flow, floral diversity, pollinator habitat and grassland bird nesting areas. Various boardwalk structures and clear span bridges serving as golf car and walking paths have been incorporated for crossing over wetland and waterway resources that integrates the ecological features with the golf and spectator experience. The course also features extensive waterways and water features that have undergone rehabilitation to improve water quality, fisheries and amphibian habitat and other aquatic species diversity. Heartland Ecological Group, Inc., a local women-owned firm, completed a comprehensive ecological restoration plan and led the club’s restoration efforts.

Local firm Architectural Design Consultants, Inc. and general contractor National Construction, were tasked with the clubhouse renovation, along with Silver Leaf Interiors, with the goal of modernizing amenities and enriching the member experience. The completed project includes interior and exterior design upgrades to all clubhouse rooms including the TPC Grand, Players dining and Center Court– adding a new bar tops, windows, lighting, A/V systems and more; as well as the men’s and women’s locker rooms with new half lockers, while adding in more space, remodeled showers, lounge areas and a new A/V system. The redesign has created easy access to the golf course, tennis courts and restaurant at TPC Wisconsin.

“The redesign of the course has gone exceptionally well; we’ve raised our fairways two to four feet to ensure drainage and playing surface perfection,” said Dennis Tiziani, owner and president of TPC Wisconsin. “The work that has been put in on the property from 2021-2023 is an engineering marvel and an ecological miracle. I’ve been around the game of golf for a very long time, and I assure you that what we’ve created is not only going to be a challenging course, but a memorable one. Players will remember every hole – not just two or three ‘signature’ holes like on many courses. And, because golf instruction is my passion, TPC Wisconsin will be among the best places in the world to improve your game.”

PONTE VEDRA BEACH, Fla. – With more than 1,500 employees in the TPC Network across the United States, Elizabeth (Beth) Stentiford, sous chef at TPC Boston, has been named the 2022 recipient of the Network’s A. James Clark Award. The annual award is given in recognition of an employee who upholds the values of the TPC Network and who exemplifies Mr. Clark’s same commitment, strong work ethic and inspirational leadership.

“When I think back on what makes Beth special as an employee, I’ve realized that if I were having to build a brand-new culinary team, Beth would be the foundation that I would build around,” said Dan Waslewski, general manager of TPC Boston. “Beth has not only made a major impact on the club, but our local community too. One of many examples is her volunteering her time during an incredibly busy period to cook for local police and coordinated a special gathering recognizing Norton’s fallen officers. We are incredibly lucky to have her on our team.”

Born and raised in Norton, Massachusetts, Stentiford developed her passion for cooking by helping her mom in the kitchen. From there, her culinary journey took her to cooking and running the kitchen at a popular local pub. In 2013, she joined the team at TPC Boston, leaving briefly to help open a restaurant in her hometown. She returned to TPC Boston in 2020 to assist the club with THE NORTHERN TRUST, ultimately becoming the full-time sous chef, her current role.

“I am deeply humbled and grateful to receive this award. It’s an honor to be recognized for upholding the values of the TPC Network,” said Stentiford. “I am truly blessed to work with such an incredible team at TPC Boston and grateful for their support. This award is a testament to the hard work and dedication of everyone at TPC Boston and I am proud to be a part of it.”

When not at TPC Boston, Stentiford volunteers her time with the local chapter of Wreaths Across America, an organization that places wreaths on the graves of fallen military veterans. Stentiford also contributes to the Alzheimer’s Association, where she has been a team captain and has helped raise more than $45,000 in proceeds for Alzheimer’s research, and consistently volunteers her time with the Pan Mass Challenge, an annual bike-a-thon in support of the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute.

Echoing the accolades given to Stentiford, John Hugghins, senior vice president of TPC Network operations, said, “Beth exemplifies the perfect characteristics of a superior member of the staff at TPC Boston as well as having a great commitment to her community.”

The inaugural A. James Clark award was presented in 2015 and past recipients of the award include Jody Boudreau (TPC Sawgrass), Dulce Muniz (TPC Southwind), Maggie Peebles (TPC River’s Bend), Jose Murillo Rodriguez (TPC Deere Run), Noel Hall (TPC River Highlands), Robin Morello (TPC River Highlands) and Alex Rodriguez (TPC Harding Park).

About Mr. A.

Clark Enterprises built prisons, power plants, hotels, military barracks, government research facilities, museums, sports arenas and transportation projects. Forbes Magazine once dubbed him the “King of Concrete.”

Clark Enterprises was contracted to construct the 77,000 square-foot Mediterranean Revival-style clubhouse at TPC Sawgrass, a project the company completed in ten months, just in time for the 2007 PLAYERS Championship.

12-time PGA TOUR winner and Wisconsin-native Steve Stricker to oversee course redesign, which includes revamped Golf Academy.

PONTE VEDRA BEACH, Fla. – The PGA TOUR’s TPC Network announced today that Cherokee Country Club in Madison, Wisconsin will become the company’s 30th property in its network of premier golf facilities and will be renamed TPC Wisconsin. The club will be added as a licensed property, with ownership and operations remaining under Cherokee Park Inc.

The property will receive a complete overhaul to the golf course, including the Golf Academy and clubhouse. Leading the project as his first course design is 12-time PGA TOUR winner, eight-time PGA TOUR Champions winner, and Madison-resident Steve Stricker.

For 60 years, Cherokee Country Club has served as Madison’s only private facility offering an 18-hole golf course, all-season golf range, indoor and outdoor tennis, pickleball and a 25-meter Olympic-size outdoor pool.

“This is an exciting day for TPC Network as we welcome this wonderful facility as a licensed property into our portfolio,” said Jim Triola, PGA TOUR Golf Course Properties Chief Operating Officer. “While we have been methodical in the planning process, the decision to move forward in this new and thriving market was unanimous from the start. Knowing the exceptional product that would result from the redesign by Steve Stricker, along with ownership’s commitment to invest in its member and guest experience, this project has significant momentum that is sure to result in an elevated experience.”

Executing in a phased approach, the clubhouse refresh began in February of 2022 with this initial phase expected to be finalized ahead of the golf course renovation completion in August 2023. The clubhouse will remain open throughout the construction process and the golf course is currently closed until completion.

Born in Edgerton, Wisconsin, Stricker’s plans include re-grading the course to accent advancements to the game since it was developed, by repositioning features and rebuilding all the infrastructure including greens, tees, bunkers and an all-new cart path system.

“I couldn’t ask for a better scenario with my first golf course design project to be the same property that I spent the better part of 30 years of my golf career and where I have raised my family,” said Steve Stricker. “TPC Wisconsin will be a dream project for me. It’s one I have taken great pride in designing what I feel will be a course that will test the best players in the world but also provide playability at every level. It will get every ounce of my energy and attention to be the best golf course and golf experience that there is, and I look forward to playing a role in bringing it to fruition.”

The golf course will be replanted with newer, more improved species of turf-grass and will have a new, more efficient, irrigation system installed. Some re-routing of the golf holes will occur to improve green-to-tee walks and create hubs of greens and tees. Spectator mounding will be integrated into many of these areas, taking into consideration the local/regional amateur and professional events to be played at TPC Wisconsin. In addition to the course redesign, the Golf Academy will also receive a remodel including a new indoor hitting structure that will include club and putter fitting rooms, indoor putting green and a new space for food and beverages, along with a short game practice area and Toptracer technology.

TPC Wisconsin is proud to incorporate significant environmental improvements throughout the golf course. The proximity of the course to the Cherokee Marsh, part of an extensive wetland complex of more than 2,000 acres, lends itself to an important component of the overall health of the local and regional ecosystem. TPC Wisconsin is restoring over 35-acres of degraded on-site wetlands to improve floral diversity, pollinator habitat, and grassland bird nesting areas. Various boardwalk structures and clear span bridges serving as golf car and walking paths have been incorporated for crossing over wetland and waterway resources that integrates the ecological features with the golf and spectator experience. The course also features extensive waterways and water features undergoing rehabilitation to improve water quality, fisheries and amphibian habitat, and other aquatic species diversity. Heartland Ecological Group, Inc., a local women-owned firm, completed a comprehensive ecological restoration plan and is leading the restoration efforts.

Local firm, Architectural Design Consultants, Inc. has been tasked with the Cherokee Country Club renovation, along with Silver Leaf Interiors, with the goal of modernizing amenities and enriching the member experience. The ongoing project will include interior and exterior design upgrades to all clubhouse rooms including the Cherokee Lounge – including an all-new bar, lighting and A/V system; Sequoia Room – leveling the floor, adding walls to separate the bar from the current dining space, adding a new bar top, windows, lighting and more; sports lounge and pro shop – adding fresh paint, flooring, bar top, lighting and av; as well as the men’s and women’s locker rooms with new half lockers, adding additional space, remodeled showers, new lighting and refurbishing the sauna and jacuzzi. The renovation will also create easy access to the golf course, tennis courts and restaurant at the club.

“The TPC brand is synonymous with premier golf facilities that host PGA TOUR events,” said Dennis Tiziani, owner and president of Cherokee Park Inc. “We are proud to join TPC Network and offer a PGA TOUR level golf course and facilities in Madison and the state of Wisconsin. TPC Wisconsin will be an amazing venue and I am proud to help bring this dream to reality and deliver the one-of-a-kind experience we envision for our members.”

PONTE VEDRA BEACH, Fla. – With more than 1,500 employees in the TPC Network across the United States, Alex Rodriguez, assistant head professional at TPC Harding Park in San Francisco, has been named the 2022 recipient of the Network’s A. James Clark Award. The annual award is given in recognition of an employee who upholds the values of the TPC Network and who exemplifies Mr. Clark’s same commitment, strong work ethic and inspirational leadership.

“For his significant and positive impact on TPC Harding Park, the game of golf and the community, Alex is deserving of the highest TPC Network recognition,” said Tom Smith general manager of TPC Harding Park. “He has been instrumental in reaching new golfers, selling out women’s beginner clinics, junior camps and seeing continued growth in the second year of the program. He takes pride in the fact that 65 percent are repeat students, which shows satisfaction and sustained growth.”

Since joining TPC Harding Park in February of 2020, Rodriguez – who was born in Santa Cruz, California – brought with him a highly successful player development program that moved golf lessons from contractors to TPC Network golf professionals. These professionals worked with more than 500 golfers over the summer and brought 100 new golfers on property through junior camps.

“While this might be an individual award, I see it as validation for the collective work that we are doing together,” said Rodriguez. “I have always believed that if you keep your head down and put the work in, good things will happen. I am truly honored to be recognized for this distinguished award.”

Each TPC Network club submits one nominee for the award and a winner is selected by a committee. This is the first time an employee from TPC Harding Park was selected for this honor.

The inaugural A. James Clark award was given in 2015 and past recipients include Jody Boudreau (TPC Sawgrass), Dulce Muniz (TPC Southwind), Maggie Peebles (TPC River’s Bend), Jose Murillo Rodriguez (TPC Deere Run), Noel Hall (TPC River Highlands) and Robin Morello (TPC River Highlands).

]]>
LAS VEGAS – TPC Summerlin, a private 18-hole golf course located just minutes from downtown Las Vegas and host to the PGA TOUR’s Shriners Children’s Open, announced renovation plans to further enhance its award-winning facility.

The renovation will begin April 15, with reopening scheduled for the start of the Shriners Children’s Open on Oct. 3-9, 2022.

“This is an exciting time for our club, our members and our community,” said Brian Hawthorne, general manager at TPC Summerlin. “TPC Summerlin has become synonymous with a world class golf experience and we truly believe this long-awaited renovation will not only improve the on-site experience locally but will boost the appeal for our city when millions tune-in for the Shriner’s Children’s Open next fall.”

The renovation calls for TPC Summerlin, part of the TPC Network (owned, operated and licensed by the PGA TOUR), to re-grass all of the fairways and greens to newer improved varieties. Throughout the renovation, TPC Summerlin’s practice facility, Lifestyle Center, tennis courts, pool and clubhouse will remain open and available to members.

Currently, TPC Summerlin’s existing fairways are made up of the originally planted 419 hybrid Bermuda. The fairways are set to be planted with a newer variety of Bermuda called Bandera. This variety is known for its aggressive growth habit and early spring green up and fall color retention. Its aggressive style will lend itself to faster divot recovery and improved wear tolerance offering a more uniform experience for play. In addition to the fairways, the project will re-grass all Bentgrass greens to an improved variety called Dominator. Dominator is a blend of two high-quality Bentgrasses selected for its proven performance in warmer climates and its exceptional density and texture providing superior ball roll characteristics.

Named by Golf Digest as “One of America’s Best Golf Courses,” TPC Summerlin and its championship layout continue to redefine the private golf club membership experience in Las Vegas. The par-72, 7,243-yard golf course’s layout was carved from a magnificent swath of rugged desert terrain by renowned golf course architect Bobby Weed which meanders through arroyos and canyons, with striking flora, numerous water features, an abundance of honey mesquite and pine trees contrasting dramatically with undisturbed desert washes – creating one of the most visually stunning tests of golf in Nevada. TPC Summerlin’s golf, amenities and exceptional member benefits make it one of the most coveted private clubs in Nevada where members enjoy a sense of community, camaraderie and belonging that come with participation in exclusive members-only golf and social events throughout the year.
