Brentwood, Tenn. – Softspikes® walked away with a second Major Championship of the year on Sunday at The PGA Championship as the winner, wearing PINS ThinTech spikes in his adidas Tour 360 shoes, lead from wire-to-wire to claim a long-overdue first Major title.

Starting the final round tied for the lead at -15, the Californian came out of the blocks firing, making birdies on the 1st, 4th, 7th & 9th holes to make the turn in 4 under-par 31. A bogey on the 10th hole was quickly rectified with back-to-back birdies on the 11th and 12th holes to set up a 72nd hole grand finale where a 6ft birdie putt was calmly holed for a 6-under par round of 65 and an emotional first Major title.

The win at The PGA Championship takes Softspikes’ 2024 Tour win tally to 20 in 22 events along with a clean sweep at the two Majors. Nine of the players finishing tied 8th or better put their trust in Softspikes as they competed over the undulating fairways of Valhalla Golf Club. Standout men’s DAVANTI shoe recognised by four media titles across the globe

Stage One of the test measured the relative performance of shoe construction on a golfer’s speed production utilizing three shoes: FootJoy Flex spikeless shoe, Whitin’s zero-drop minimalist shoe, and the new SQAIRZ VELO spiked shoe. Several key findings were produced, including the discovery that athletes wearing SQAIRZ VELO saw an increase of 4.2 mph in club speed and a remarkable 16.9 yard increase in carry distance compared to the FootJoy Flex and Whitin minimalist shoes. This segment of the study concluded that by simply changing footwear, SQAIRZ significantly increased ground force production and speed, resulting in measurable gains in distance.

In addition to testing the construction of footwear’s effect on player’s performance, Stage Two tested two golfers as they went through a specific Ground Reaction Force (GRF) training protocol developed by SuperSpeed Golf based upon each player’s own limitations in force production.  After the 10-minute protocol, post-testing was completed for their shoe conditions. The variables of interest were similar to those in Stage One, but the main focus in Stage Two was on the GRF changes as a result of the SuperSpeed Ground Force training protocol in each shoe condition. This segment of the study saw that after following a GRF-specific training program, the golfers in the study were able to improve their GRF profiles to a greater extent in the SQAIRZ shoes compared to the golfers’ own golf shoes. These findings show that the footwear choice of the golfer plays a role in GRF and the associated club and ball speeds in both the acute setting and also as a result of training.
