33,000 Square-Foot Clubhouse Scheduled to Open in 2007 Charter Memberships Available with New Flexible Dues Options
KENOSHA, Wisconsin (October 18, 2005) – With construction, seeding and grow-in of its Rick Jacobson-designed golf course now complete, the Club at Strawberry Creek announced today it will open formally next spring, with its 33,000 square-foot clubhouse scheduled for completion in 2007.
"We are very excited that the Club at Strawberry Creek will be in prime condition the day we have our grand opening next spring," said developer Barry Shiffman, whose co-developer is former All Pro Chicago Bears center Jay Hilgenberg. "Rick Jacobson’s first original 18-hole course in the Chicago-Milwauakee metropolitan area is sure to bolster his reputation as one of this generation’s top golf course architects."
Although the Club at Strawberry Creek is a private club, Shiffman said it will be open for limited public play so that potential members may see and experience the course for themselves.
Charter Memberships are now available for a membership deposit of $18,500 payable in three equal no-interest payments, according to membership director Karen Nasshan. In addition, two new dues options are available to those who declare their memberships before next spring. One option is for members to pay no dues until the clubhouse is completed while paying the guest-fee rate for golf. The other is to pay $300 in monthly dues for unlimited golf for the member and his or her immediate family members. Upon completion of the clubhouse dues will be $425 monthly, according to Nasshan.
The club is located on Wisconsin Highway 50 two miles west of Interstate 94.
The 385-acre residential project will feature luxury custom homes, 326 single family residences, including 62 custom home sites; 336 town homes and condominiums, and 264 luxury apartments.
The golf course will be the focal point of the community, but its fairways will not be lined with housing.
"Strawberry Creek will be different from traditional golf community developments in that its sweeping expanses of open space will preserve the integrity of the golf experience while the housing component will exist primarily on the perimeter of the course," Jacobson said.
Inspired by the classic golf course architecture of the early 1900s, the par 72 course ranges in length from 5,100 to 7,118 yards and features many classic design elements, Jacobson said. Among the classic design elements are sod-faced bunkers in the style of golf course design master Donald Ross; fairway chipping areas adjacent to greens, which will present recovery shots reminiscent of Ross’s famed Pinehurst courses; and the use of native grasses to frame holes and emulate the vernacular prairie landscape of southern Wisconsin.
Streams, lakes and natural wildlife habitat provide a dramatic backdrop for an exciting finish on four of the last five holes. A creek running through the property comes into play on five holes.
Jacobson said he created a course that stands out for the diversity of its golf holes, its playability for golfers of all levels, its strategic challenge, and its aesthetic appeal. The course features two drivable short par 4s on the front and back nines. In addition, Jacobson has designed par 3 holes that vary in length from 147 to 230 yards, so that golfers can test their short-iron finesse games as well as their long-iron power games.
The club’s expansive clubhouse will feature a full-service pro shop, locker rooms and ample banquet facilities, as well as a pool, tennis and fitness facilities.
