Runner-Up Forces Third Playoff of 2005, Plays Two Sonartec Clubs
Carlsbad, California – October 17, 2005; Last weekend at the Michelin Championship Sonartec earned three more Top-10 finishes, including a runner-up finish. The runner-up was joined in the Top-10 by a third place finisher and an eighth place finisher. Sonartec also earned the #2 hybrid count at the Michelin with 12 Md hybrid transition clubs in play.
A former three-time winner of the event, the runner-up overcame a five-stroke deficit by virtue of his final-round 65 to force a sudden-death playoff. It was the third time in 2005 he forced a playoff after trailing by five or more strokes on Sunday. He has now earned a total of ten Top-10 finishes while accumulating the third-best scoring average in Tour. He has played the same 13-degree SS-series fairway wood and 19-degree Md virtually all season.
"We have enjoyed watching the fantastic season the runner-up has put together," said Sonartec President Toru Kamatari. "It is the support of players like him that continues to earn Sonartec credibility, and we are very appreciative of that support."
The third place finisher catapulted himself into the Top-10 with an electric second-round 63. His 19-under-par 268 was good enough to earn him a third-place tie, his best finish of the 2005 PGA Tour season. He and the runner-up were joined by an eighth place finisher who also earned his best finish of 2005 in Las Vegas.
