Daniel B. Burton of Bent Creek Country Club was approved as the next President of the Golf Association of Philadelphia last Wednesday at the organization’s 109th Annual Meeting.

Mr. Burton succeeds Neil McDermott, who held that position for the last four years.

Mr. Burton, 56, a resident of Lititz, Pa., has served on the Golf Association of Philadelphia Executive Committee since 1999. He served as the Association’s Vice-President during Mr. McDermott’s tenure.

"I am honored and humbled to have the opportunity to lead an organization like the Golf Association of Philadelphia," said Burton, who becomes the Association’s 29th President. "I look forward to growing the game of golf in the Philadelphia area as my predecessors before me have done. Neil has been a great leader for the past four years. He will be missed."

Mr. Burton works as a Managing Director for RBC Dain Rauscher, one of the nation’s leading investment firms, where he has worked for 20 years. He and wife Vicki have three children, Dan, 23; Laura, 21; and Meredith, 18.

Mr. Burton is eligible to serve as the Golf Association of Philadelphia’s President for three successive one-year terms.

"Building a new facility to house the Golf Association, one that could possibly house a [Philadelphia golf] museum is a major goal of mine," said Burton.

Mr. Burton served as the Bent Creek Country Club president for 10 years, 1993-2002. He also served on the Executive Committee of the Pennsylvania Golf Association from 1996-2005. He chaired that Association’s Finance Committee the last eight years.

Additional officers of the Golf Association of Philadelphia presented by the Nominating Committee and approved were W. Scott Smith, Jr., of Merion Golf Club, Vice-President; Richard P. Meehan, Jr., of Moorestown Field Club, Secretary-Treasurer; and A. Fred Ruttenberg of Woodcrest Country Club, General Counsel.

The Association also welcomed Brian P. Kelly of Whitemarsh Valley Country Club as its newest Executive Committee member. Mr. Kelly replaces Mr. Paul R. Rubincam, Jr., of Philadelphia Cricket Club, who leaves the board after six years of service.
